Origin of South African music – Amapiano

The signature tune of South Africans amongst the millennials is Amapiano.

It’s a music style that has set up South African DJs, artists, and choreographers on a global scale.

The fluidity of this genre of music is what has made it a trend from 2019 to date.

Many people have and still enjoy Amapiano and the success of a Dj’s career plus the outcome of events are based on how this music is played and jammed with.

It is of no surprise to see Spotify rise to shed more light on this music.

The stream outside of Sub- Saharan Africa as stated by Spotify is growing by more than 563% with over 920M global all-time streams.

Amapiano is a Zulu name that means “the pianos’ “ started on the streets of Pretoria and Johannesburg in 2012 with a certain man playing the piano over the music that was being played just to add a different twist to the song.

The name Amapiano was given by a duoDj/ producer MFR Souls.

Spotify is working on a documentary titled “ Music that Moves,” a series that will focus on grown music crossing borders and shaping cultures in unexpected places.

The versatility of this music has allowed DJs and music producers from Morocco to Japan, choreographers from Egypt and many more people all over the globe to experience a lifestyle that brings together African culture and creativity.
